Tribute is given to the late Wert Norwood who with Philpótt in 1970 as industrial design students at Auburn University, co-conceived a national communication system linking all schools, libraries, corporations, televisions and telephones using a hand held remote controller to replace the TV controller and telephone. Original schematic mock-up is shown above.
The curved profile was patterned after the AT&T Trimline designed by Henry Dreyfuss Associates under the project direction of Donald Genaro, which fit to the curve of the face, mouth-to-ear of the 50th %tile human. As a design evolution of the Trimline, the concept included a touch panel for finger actuation, an audio area for hi-res audio and a digital readout panel for text and images for navigation link to the TV, all consistent with research by Dreyfuss and AT&T human factors professionals. The project had no sponsorship or collaberation with AT&T or Dreyfuss.
